On Saturday 25th October, some incredibly brave people took on the challenge of walking on fire to raise money for Keynsham Mencap! The session was run by the fantastic team at UK Firewalk, and we were kindly hosted by Saltford Sports Club, who provided their outdoor space for the main event and their hall and bar for our indoor stalls and entertainment.
Our firewalkers arrived early for their safety briefing, learning how to safely cross the hot coals. Before the main event, visitors enjoyed exploring a range of stalls, including a lucky dip, tombola, “guess the name of the teddy,” and face painting – just to name a few! Despite the chilly weather, the atmosphere was buzzing as crowds gathered ready to cheer them on.
At 7pm, it was time to begin the firewalk! One by one, the participants made their way barefoot across the red-hot coals, cheered on by friends, family, and supporters. There were faces of fear, excitement, and determination – everyone showed amazing courage! Some firewalkers kept going again and again – they were unstoppable! We were especially proud to see some of our club members, Dean, Alice, Barry, and Suzie, take part. They all did an incredible job and represented Keynsham Mencap brilliantly.
After completing the fiery challenge, each participant received a certificate of participation and joined a group photo to celebrate their achievement. There were plenty of smiles, selfies, and laughter! The celebration continued indoors, where guests enjoyed delicious burgers from the Saltford Sports Club barbecue and danced in the bar to DJ Barry’s fire-themed music.
We’re thrilled to announce that the event raised an amazing £2,200, with some sponsorship money still to come!
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made the evening possible – UK Firewalk for running the event, our wonderful volunteers for running stalls and helping to set up and take down the event, DJ Barry for providing entertainment, Saltford Sports Club for hosting us, and of course, all our fearless firewalkers for taking on the flames in support of our charity.
It was a fantastic night full of excitement, community spirit, and achievement. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported us – we can’t wait to see you at our next event!
