Volunteer Stories – Megan

My older sister has Down’s syndrome so I grew up being around people with physical and learning disabilities.

When I left school I wanted to do something other than college so my mum told me about Mencap and volunteering there and I have been doing it for nearly 4 years now!

I didn’t have any experience of learning disabilities apart from being around my sister.

I volunteer with Keynsham Mencap juniors club on a Thursday evening.

As a volunteer I typically get the kids involved with the activities, help them out when needed and just make sure everyone is safe and having fun.

The best thing about volunteering is seeing all the kids being happy at club. It make me feel really proud and happy to know that I’m helping to make sure the kids are having fun.

I would say definitely consider getting involved in volunteering!

Volunteering can help you gain more confidence and you will be helping to make a difference at Mencap.
