Volunteer Stories – Charlotte W

I am going to UWE Bristol to study Paediatric Nursing next year as I love working with children! I felt that I really wanted to help make a difference in my local community and so I joined Mencap to volunteer with 11-18 year olds. I really enjoy it and would recommend it to anyone! It’s so rewarding.

I had some previous experience working with some people with learning disabilities as part of a local community show. This was something I really enjoyed.

I started volunteering about 6 months ago and this involves working with the children to create an environment where they can have fun and play with other people who understand their needs.

The best thing about volunteering is being able to help the children have fun and enjoy interaction with other people. Many areas of their lives are challenging so its nice that Mencap can be a place where they can play and interact with other children with similar challenges.

If you are considering volunteering I would say go ahead and do it! You could make such a difference to someone’s life and it’s so so rewarding!
